Alexandra Grant Biography
Alexandra Grant is an American visual artist responsible for examining written texts and language through video, sculpture, drawing, painting, and other media. Grant uses language and exchanges with writers as a source for much of that work and she had her first solo exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in 2007. Moreover, she participated in Edgar Arceneaux’s Watts House Project, a nonprofit group focused on renovating houses across the Watts Tower, in Los Angeles.
Alexandra collaborated on twin series of exhibitions with Cixous, based on the latter’s book the Philippines in 2013, and also continued this work in the series called “Century of the Self” in the same year. Furthermore, her inspiration toward her work was by the documentary film called “Century of the Self” by Adam Curtis, the BBC documentarian. Also, Alexandra has worked as a professor where from 2009 to 2011, she was an adjunct professor at Art Center College of Design. Nonetheless, Grant touted an MFA seminar in 2010 at Cal State Northridge. Moreover, from 2013 – 2014, she was in the Pacific Northwest College of Art’s Distance MFA Program serving as a mentor.
