Woody Paige is an American journalist, sports columnist for The Gazette, author, and frequent panelist on the ESPN sports-talk program, Around the horn, and was a columnist for the Denver Post for 35 years. He was a co-host of Cold Pizza and its spin-off show 1st and 10 until November 4, 2006, when it was announced that Paige would return to the Post.
Woody is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee and is a Baseball Hall of Fame voter he joined the Denver Post in 1981. Paige had a friendly rivalry with fellow panelist Jay Mariotti prior to the latter’s dismissal from the Around the horn show and he reported there was a controversy over one of Paige’s articles.
In July 2004, he announced that he was taking a one-year leave from Post to join ESPN2’s then-debuting Cold Pizza and he was featured in a segment where he bantered with sportswriter Skip Bayless. He began his career as a writer for the Knoxville Journal, The Commercial Appeal of Memphis, and the Rocky Mountain News of Denver, and he was honored with an Accomplished Alumni Award by the University of Tennessee in 2012.
Lastly, he has covered and written about the aftermath of 9/11 at Ground Zero in New York, and civil rights marchers in the South in the 1960s. Additionally, has covered more than 40 Super Bowls, 14 Olympics, and every major college championship.
