During his last few days as an anchor, Charles worked on a special documentary titled “Over a Barrel: The Truth About Oil” which earned him several awards. He announced his retirement on September 2, 2009, from ABC News and was replaced by Diane Sawyer, and he anchored his final edition of World News on December 18, 2009.
