Educated at Roman Catholic schools in the Chicago region, such as Oak Park’s St. Catherine of Siena Grammar School, Newhart went on to attend St. Ignatius College Prep for his high school education, where he graduated in 1947. After that, he enrolled at Loyola University Chicago, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business management in 1952.
After being enlisted into the US Army, Newhart worked as a personnel manager there during the Korean War until his discharge in 1954. He only attended Loyola University Chicago School of Law for a short time, but he claims that one of the reasons he didn’t finish his degree was that he was asked to act unethically when working as an intern.
