Byron Pitts is an American journalist, anchor, reporter, and author who is currently working for ABC News as co-anchor for the network’s late-night news program, Nightline. Until March 2013, he worked for The CBS Evening News as a chief national correspondent and a regular contributor at 60 Minutes. Pitt interned at WTVD in Durham, North Carolina and he also reported and served as a weekend sports anchor at WNCT-TV in Greenville, North Carolina. Additionally, he served as a military reporter for WAVY-TV in Portsmouth, Virginia, and also as a reporter for WESH-TV Orlando in 1986.
Byron moved to Washington, D.C. as a correspondent for CBS Newspath, the 24-hour affiliate news service for CBS News (1997-1998). He is a recipient of an Emmy Award for his coverage while at CBS News on the 9/11 attacks and has also covered the Iraq war and the fall of Saddam Hussein’s statue.
